Before | After Fireplace

BEFORE | Original red brick fireplace with (painted) black tile.

AFTER | Ok guys, this is my fireplace and I finally, finally, FINALLY got around to updating it. This is wood burning and we use it often (notice the ash from last Winter). I’m really thrilled with the results. Here’s what we did:

Whitewashed the brick – The mixture we used was half water\half paint (Annie Sloane Chalk Paint in Pure White). Two coats did the trick. Chalk paint is known for drying quickly, but we let it cure overnight before doing the second coat.

Repainted the tile – Annie Sloane Chalk Paint in Graphite. This was also two coats with a night to cure. In addition we sprayed a clear sealant to protect it from the heat.

We took the mirror off the wall and leaned it on the mantle and added some new interesting decor.  Eventually I’d like to added some sconces… and clean the ash out!

Thinking of selling? Would you like to know how you can increase the marketability of your home? My advice has helped homeowners outsell their competition faster with more offers and for more money.
